Next Google Android OS Name : "Ice Cream Sandwich" Will Be Annouced

As you know, Google names its major Android updates after tasty sweets and desserts. We’ve already been treated to Cupcake, Donut, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, and Honeycomb. It’s been long thought that the next iteration would be called either Ice Cream or Ice Cream Sandwich. Well, a Google staffer has most likely outed the official choice on a support site. As you can see in the screenshot below, a Google employee, who goes by the name Romain, has responded to an Android 3.0 Honeycomb issue by saying “a bug fix will be provided in Ice Cream Sandwich.” Oops.

Back in February, Google chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt and Engineering Director Dave Burke spilled the beans on the next major update, saying it would be a hybrid of Gingerbread and Honeycomb in an effort to bridge the gap between Android smartphones and tablets. Google I/O 2011, a developer conference where Android announcements are expected to be made, will take place on May 10-11. It’s only natural to assume that Google will officially announce Android Ice Cream Sandwich to the world.
