Hulu’s official mobile client has finally been released to the Android Market. Like its iOS variant Hulu Plus for Android lets you browse and stream video clips from the Hulu website and with a $7.99/month Hulu Plus subscription, popular, old and current TV shows and whole movies on the go. Sadly, the initial release of Hulu Plus only supports six devices, namely, the Nexus One, Nexus S, HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Droid II, Motorola Droid X, and the Motorola Atrix. It seems selective compatibility has become sort of a trend in the video streaming genre of Android applications. And if Hulu decides to follow in the footsteps of the ever-elusive Netflix, the remaining lot of Android devices won’t be getting the app any time soon.



Power users might already be working on a mod for the app. In the meantime, you can download the APK from here (XDA-Developers forum) if you want to try your hand at making the app work on your unsupported Android device or simply want to explore the interface (which, surprisingly, seems equally sleek but more efficient than that of Hulu Plus for iOS). The build.prop workaround that brought Netflix to selective unsupported devices only a day after its release does not seem to work with Hulu Plus – at least on none of our unsupported devices.
